Elle ne joue pas de flûte non plus

I thought instruments were ‘joue de la’ (in this case flûte) - is there a reason the ‘la’ has fallen off in this example?

The article is gone due to the negation.

This is true for pretty much everything, not just musical instruments.

"J'ai du lait." -- I've got milk.

"Je n'ai plus de lait." -- I don't have any milk left.
