Question: You remind them to make their beds.

This was a multiple choice  question.  The correct answer was given as "Tu leur rappelles de faire leur lit."  Why isn't it "Tu leur rappelles de faire leurs lits."  ?

The difference is between -

leur lit = their (own) bed

leurs lits their beds 

So without context hard to say...

If you said leur lits, it would mean that each one of them had more than one bed to make. That's a different interpretation than in English. In French, you take the view of an individual, who only has one bed to make, whereas in English you look at it from the group's perspective, where the group has several beds to make.

Chris- you say leur lits.  Now I am really confused.  I'd better see if there is a lesson on this!
