Replacing nouns with "Les" or "en"

In "J'ai encore des cadeaux à acheter. - Marie ________ a déjà tous achetés !"

The answer is reported as "les." But I used "en" because of the previous reference to "des cadeaux" and the following reference to "tous achetes." Would this be correct as well, or, if not, why is it wrong?

Hi Anna, 

The definite article 'les' is used because Marie has already bought all of them ( the ones you were talking about).

If you said :

Marie en a déjà achetés ( plusieurs) 

it would mean -

Marie has already bought some of them and you couldn't have 'tous' in the sentence.
